Workshop on Bunt and Smut Diseases in cooperation with ECOBREED and LIVESEED

At the XX International Workshop on Smuts and Bunts in Logan, Utah, USA,  it was decided to hold the next workshop in Austria. The 21st International Workshop on Smut and Bunt Diseases will be hosted by the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) May 5-6, 2021.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the 2021 workshop was organized as a VIRTUAL event.

The workshops on Smut and Bunt diseases of crop plants have provided opportunities to exchange ideas and information every two years since 1976 at the Pacific Division AAAS meeting in Missoula, Montana. BOKU is pleased and honored to host the upcoming workshop. The workshop will gather public and private sector researchers, plant-pathologists, geneticists, breeders, extension specialists, farmers and users of cereal products to discuss new findings on bunt and smut diseases of cereals and thus contribute to sustainable control and prevention of these bothersome fungal diseases. Bunt diseases are particularly devastating in organic farming, therefore bunt control for organic cereal production will be emphasized.

Target group of the workshop are all stakeholders with an interest in bunt and smut diseases. These fungal diseases are of particular relevance for ORGANIC cereal production. The 21st International Workshop on Smut and Bunt Diseases will be hosted by the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU). The workshop will be performed  in co-operation with the H2020 projects ECOBREED and LIVESEED.
